Transportation service is available to Preble County residents age 60 and older who are most in need of the service and without alternative means of transportation. Transportation is provided to medical appointments and treatment centers inside and outside of the county, within a 50 mile radius of Eaton. Need is determined by assessment and prioritization.
Transport to and from the Eaton Congregate Meal Site
Transport to and from doctor and dental appointments, chemotherapy and radiation treatments, physical therapy, and dialysis, with the highest priority for trips outside the county
Transportation for grocery shopping, banking and prescriptions
Wheelchair lift equipped vehicles are used for this service as needed and/or available.
Transportation for individuals under age 60 must be approved by Preble County Job and Family Services.
Each year, the Transportation Department collects non-perishable food and paper products for Holiday Food Baskets that will be delivered a few days before Christmas to seniors in need. Monetary donations enable the staff to purchase additional fresh food items to add to the baskets. Applicants qualify for a food basket if they are at 150% of the federal poverty guidelines. In 2013, 94 baskets were delivered to seniors in need in Preble County.
My name is Tim Miller and I am the Preble County Mobility Manager. I am a CDL licensed driver and have driven for L&M Products and Preble County Council on Aging. I also spent 13 years with school transportation, starting as a driver and ending as the transportation supervisor. As defined by the state of Ohio: The Ohio Mobility Management Program increases access to mobility to Ohioans by increasing understanding and awareness of transportation, needs, coordination of transportation options to meet needs and building sustainable and healthy communities by integrating transportation into planning and programs.
Mobility Management is:
· innovation in transportation service and coordination.
· local and regional solutions to fit community needs and visions.
· assisting transportation-challenged populations -- youth, people with disabilities, older people and people with low incomes -- to get where they need to go so they can live fruitful lives in their communities.
· easy information and referral to assist individuals in learning about and accessing community and regional transportation services.
· a shared table of transportation providers, planners, and community stakeholders to collaborate, plan, implement and maintain a family of transportation services.
As the Preble County Mobility Manager, I am dedicated to assisting residents of the county with any transportation issues they or their loved ones may have.
Though I do not physically provide transportation, I can help individuals seek solutions to their transportation situations.
I have successfully completed the DRIVE: Transporting Older and Disabled Passenger Train the Train course. This allows me to train other drivers using the DRIVE Fundamentals. This training for drivers is available to all transportation providers in Preble County.
I have successfully completed the CAR-FIT program. This program is a national program sponsored by AAA, AARP and the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). This program is designed to ensure drivers are “fit” to their vehicle for comfort and safety. This program is designed for new drivers and seniors to help with safety and/or increase mobility. To learn more about this program, you can view their website at www.car-fit.org.
